11+ Preparation
If you are looking for your child to attend a selective school in Rugby (Rugby High School, Lawrence Sheriff School or the grammar stream at Ashlawn school), your child will need to achieve the qualifying score in the 11+ examination. Preparation and familiarisation is essential at home and / or with a tutor.
I offer 1:1 sessions at your home and group sessions at a convenient location in Hillmorton, Rugby, to prepare for the 11+ examinations that take place in the September of Year 6.
I recommend beginning preparations in Year 4 to allow time to learn the Year 5 Maths and English curriculum; in Year 5 we consolidate previous learning and also learn the Year 6 Maths and English curriculum and some Year 7 content to prepare for the 11+ examination. It is not too late to prepare in Year 5 if your child is working at greater depth / exceeding Year 5 expectations for Maths, Reading and GPAS (Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation).
I use the CGP books for preparation unless you have a preference for another publisher. Your child will receive complimentary subscriptions to Bond Online and Ed Shed (Spelling Shed).

Maths
Your child has the best chance of achieving the qualifying score for a selective school if they are working at greater depth / exceeding Year 4 or 5 standards.

English
It is essential for your child to read regularly to develop their vocabulary, inference and deduction skills and to experience a range of genres (styles of writing). Your child also needs to have a good grasp of spelling rules and be able to use the full range of punctation correctly.

Verbal Reasoning
Verbal reasoning with test your child's ability to solve problems using language, logic, and pattern recognition. Questions involve a variety of puzzles that require strong vocabulary, critical thinking and an understanding of word relationships. Common question types include finding synonyms, solving word codes, identifying hidden words, and completing letter or number sequences.

Non-Verbal Reasoning
Non-verbal reasoning tests your child's ability to solve problems using shapes, diagrams and symbols instead of words. It assesses skills like identifying patterns, analysing visual information, solving problems logically, and creative thinking. Questions may include tasks like finding the 'odd one out', completing a sequence, cracking codes, rotating shapes or comparing 3D shapes with nets.
